Boy Scouts of America - Troop 61

Mansfield, Connecticut

Troop 61 is from the town of Mansfield, Connecticut.  We are located in the Northeast corner of the state, known as the "Quiet Corner".  Mansfield is composed of many sections, most notably the section called Storrs, home of the University of Connecticut and the Uconn Huskies!  We are chartered to the Eagleville Fire Department, located on Rte.32 in the Eagleville section of town.

Our next  meeting will be on December 1st as we have no meeting on November 24th due to the 1/2 day schedule for school due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  Patrols will need to focus on completion of their menus and duty rosters for the pre-Klondike campout being held 12/6 & 12/7 at Camp Calvo.

We will also be holding our next PLC / Committee meeting together in room 215 at Mansfield Middle School beginning promptly at 7:00 p.m., this Thursday, November 20th.  The main focus of the meetings will be on Klondike Derby program planning.  All Patrol leaders are required to be present.

11/22 - FOOD COLLECTION DAY

PARTICIPANTS ARE TO BE IN FULL UNIFORM AND MEET AT MANSFIELD MIDDLE SCHOOL ON THE 22ND.

We will be meeting in the parking lot of Mansfield Middle School at 9:00 A.M. on November 22nd.  Scouts should be dressed in full uniform, have a lunch with them and enough drink for the day.  November 22nd can run as late as 3:00 P.M., depending on the volume of food we are able to collect.  As in the past, scouts will be dropped at home or they will call for pickup when we have finished for the day and we are asking all parents to please come out and help support us with the collection / sorting process.

The Scouts of Mansfield will be distributing plastic food collection bags to residents throughout the Town of Mansfield on Saturday, November 15th.    The following Saturday, November 22nd, the Scouts will be returning to collect any items you wish to donate to our neighbors in need.  It is a long held tradition in scouting to provide service to our community by helping those in need, so we ask you to help us in accomplishing this goal.  Last year we collected over 5,000 items, which stayed locally in our community and helped to brighten many family’s holidays.  All of the food collected will be sorted by the Scouts and then given to local food banks for the needy.

Please place any items you wish to donate in your bag (or you may wish to use additional bags of your own if necessary) and set them by your mailbox wherever possible, or on your doorstep by 9:00 a.m. Saturday, November 22nd for pick-up.  Please do not leave items outside overnight, as perishable items will freeze.  The front of the bag lists those items most needed by local pantries.  If you have any questions, or if we accidentally miss picking up your donation on November 22nd, please email us at the address below and we will make every effort to pickup the food as quickly as possible, or you may bring your donation to the Storrs Congregational Church, our collection point until 3:00 p.m.   Please remember that the Scouts are volunteers and we do our absolute best to pickup all food, but unfortunately, we may miss some homes and we ask for your understanding.

Thank you again for helping us help the needy in our community as the fall holiday season begins.
